The Great Boatlift Commemoration

Twenty years ago the twin towers were struck by terrorists flying hijacked airliners with the loss of thousands of innocent lives.

A little known story of that terrible day is the evacuation of 500,000 from lower Manhattan by a flotilla of tugs, ferries, fishing boats, and others that responded without question.

Now known as the Great Boatlift, it is being commemorated on Friday September 10 by a fleet of commercial vessels with their crew. Many participated 20 years ago, including fireboat John J. Harvey.

The Classic Harbor Line is offering the opportunity for the general public to participate in this solemn occasion.

Tickets are $50 pp with proceeds going to various waterfront non-profits such as John J. Harvey.
